Crussh Comment on Sustainable Fish

Most of the publicity and the media has been concerning the Bluefin Tuna. Bluefin Tuna is at risk globally and is normally only found in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean. It is an expensive product, and is normally used for sushi.

Crussh does not use any bluefin tuna - the tuna we use is line and pole caught yellow fin tuna according to our supplier. This is considered a sustainable fish source. Our suppliers have never dealt with Bluefin Tuna, they only sell Skipjack and Yellow Fin. Both of these are sustainable, and caught in sustainable fisheries.

The main fishing method is purse seine nets, which are relatively small floating nets, which target specific shoals of tuna, enclose them and lift from the water. These nets do not disturb the seabed. Pole and line fishing does not necessarily improve sustainability.

MSC (The Marine Stewardship Council) have approved certain fisheries from the aspect of sustainability. These fisheries have so far been mainly in the North Atlantic, and in the North Pacific (for the expensive Albacore Tuna). This procedure also adds to the costs involved in the process.

Should you have any quesions regarding the tuna that Crussh uses, please do not hesitate to contact us.
